Safety Tips for Keeping Your Dog Warm When It’s Cold

When it comes to winter safety for your pup, there are quite a few things to consider. One of the biggest concerns you’ll likely have is how to keep your pup warm when it’s really cold. Here are a few tips to keeping your up warn this winter.

Tip #1 – Minimize Their Time Outdoors

Simply limiting exposure to extreme temperatures is a good thing for a pup, so be sure to keep potty breaks short.

Tip #2 – Get Exercise Indoors

Throw a ball around, walk up and down the steps, or try out the laser pointer. Just make sure Fido is good and tired with some indoor exercise.

Tip #3 – Keep Them Hydrated

Cold weather can do a number on your pup’s system, but keeping them hydrated gives their body the energy needed to regulate temperature.

Tip #4 – Get Fashionable

There’s nothing cuter than a pup in a winter coat, and not only will your pup be absolutely adorable, but they’ll be warm as well.

Tip #5 – Keep Your Pup Warm & Dry

When you come in from outdoors, be sure to get off any ice or snow that might be in their fur or on their paws. They’ll be happy and you’ll have a clean floor.

Tip #6 – Let Their Hair Grow

If you’re a pretty regular groomer and you know that the winter season is coming, let your pup’s hair grow a little and give them some extra protection.

Even though dogs are covered in fur, they still get cold just like humans do. So be sure to treat your fur baby just like you would your other kiddos (if you have any) and keep them nice and warm during this cold season!
